Big Second Half Powers DePaul Over Loyola 93-72

Anaya Peoples leads Blue Demons with career-high 29 points and eight assists
CHICAGO — DePaul erupted for 56 second-half points en route to a 93-72 victory over Loyola Chicago on Sunday afternoon. Four Blue Demons scored in double figures for the second-consecutive game while the team combined for a season-high 30 assists on 37 made field goals.
Graduate guard Anaya Peoples led the scoring effort once again, notching her fifth 20-point outing this season, collecting a career-high 29 points and eight assists. Kate Clarke added 21 points of her own, going 5-for-6 from behind the three-point line while grabbing six rebounds.
Jorie Allen contributed to the victory in a big way with 16 points in the paint on 8-for-8 shooting from the field. The graduate forward added a career-high six assists in addition to seven rebounds. Allen became the first Blue Demon to go perfect from the field on a minimum of eight attempts since Katherine Harry's 9-for-9 performance at Loyola on Dec. 9, 2010.
Michelle Sidor rounded out the quartet of double figure scorers with 11 points and five helpers. Sidor has reached double digits in the last three contests.
As a team, DePaul shot a season-best 53-percent from the field including a 61-percent clip from three-point range. The Blue Demons posted 13 threes on 21 attempts.
Loyola (2-4) was led by Sam Galanopoulos who finished with 20 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After trading buckets in the early going of the first quarter, the Blue Demons were held scoreless for four minutes late in the period during which Loyola scored three unanswered baskets to jump in front. Peoples converted in the lane with less than 30 seconds remaining to halt the Ramblers momentum despite their 17-14 first-quarter lead.
Clarke caught fire in the second quarter, hitting a pair of threes and dropping 10 points in the stanza. Her second triple of the game put the Blue Demons in front 29-27 halfway through the period as the lead changed hands on 20 occasions in the first half. Loyola took a 38-37 edge into the locker room.
The Blue Demons shot 75-percent (12-16) from the field in the third quarter to take a 67-57 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.
DePaul (4-3) opened the final frame on a 7-0 run with quick baskets by Peoples, Allen and Sidor to take a 74-57 advantage. The Blue Demons continued their scoring run with six points in less than a minute on back-to-back fast break baskets to earn their largest lead of the game, 91-64.
