Noting the Blue Demons
- DePaul closed out the preseason portion of their schedule on Sunday, Oct. 29 picking up a 68-45 exhibition win over Lewis behind a 20-point, 16-rebound performance from Anaya Peoples. Graduate students Jorie Allen and Katlyn Gilbert finished with nine points apiece.
- Last month, the Blue Demons took part in a historic charity exhibition matchup at Iowa. The Blue Demons and preseason No. 3 Hawkeyes played in front of a women's basketball record – 55,646 fans, at Kinnick Stadium on Oct. 15. The event raised over $250,000 for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. Peoples posted a team-high 19 points while Maeve McErlane had 14 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
- The Blue Demons are set to face another tough schedule in the non-conference and in BIG EAST play, meeting at least 12 teams that finished in the top 100 in 2022-23's final NET rankings.
- Head coach Doug Bruno and his staff welcomed in eight newcomers to the fold over the summer including four transfers and four freshmen.
- The Blue Demons bring back five returners from a season ago with Allen, McErlane and Peoples set to play prominent roles while Jade Edwards and Haley Walker work back from ACL injuries suffered last season.
- DePaul has assembled one of the most veteran rosters in the country with six Blue Demons (Allen, Edwards, Katlyn Gilbert, Brynn Masikewich, Peoples, Michelle Sidor) entering at least their fifth season of collegiate basketball.
- Oh, Canada. The Blue Demons have two Canadians on the 2023-24 roster in graduate transfer Masikewich and freshman Sumer Lee. The duo both boast experience with Team Canada and are just the second and third Canadians to play for DePaul, joining Carla Stone who lettered for the Blue Demons from 1991-95.
- Bruno welcomed a pair of familiar faces back to Chicago this spring, adding Ashton Millender and Bradley Bruno to the coaching staff as assistant coaches.
- Entering his 38th season leading the women's basketball program at his alma mater, Bruno has earned 774 victories through his Hall of Fame tenure. His win total ranks seventh among active Division I women's coaches.
- In the preseason, Western Michigan took care of business against a pair of NAIA schools, Aquinas College and Goshen College.
- The Broncos posted a 12-17 record a season ago including a 7-11 mark in Mid-American action.
- Senior guard Hannah Spitzley is the top returner for Western Michigan, averaging 10.0 points and 5.6 rebounds per game last season.
- Western Michigan brought in five newcomers in the offseason comprised of three freshman and a pair of transfers. The Broncos will look to Saginaw Valley State transfer, Kaitlyn Zarycki to provide a lift in the scoring column after averaging 16.9 points and 5.5 rebounds a game en route to earning Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year honors last season.
- Shane Clipfell is in his 12th season leading the program in Kalamazoo.
- The Blue Demons are 37-12 all-time in season openers including a 28-9 mark under head coach Doug Bruno.
- DePaul is 3-1 when beginning the season at Wintrust Arena.
- Monday's game will be just the third matchup between the two programs and first since 2000.
- The two sides have split the two previous meetings with the Blue Demons claiming the most recent matchup, a 69-64 victory in the WNIT.
