Blue Demons have three double-digit scorers
CHICAGO – DePaul fell in a defensive battle against No. 25 Northwestern, 56-46, Saturday afternoon inside Wintrust Arena. Jeremiah Oden led DePaul with 12 points, followed by 11 and 10, respectively, from Chico Carter Jr. and Elijah Fisher.
Defensively, DePaul held Northwestern to its lowest shooting percentage (35.6 percent) of the season and its fewest points scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half featured five lead changes and three ties, as both teams had their share of shooting droughts. After DePaul held a 12-9 lead on a three-pointer by K.T. Raimey, Northwestern took back the lead and grew it to as large as seven, 23-16, with four minutes left in the period. DePaul tied it up before halftime thanks to a 7-2 stretch, capped off on a three-point play from Fisher.
After trading baskets to open the second half, Northwestern took a five-point lead, 32-27, that they would ultimately not relinquish to the Blue Demons. DePaul pulled back-within a single-possession on a layup by Fisher, 37-34, but the Wildcats pushed ahead to build out a lead.
OF NOTE
- Da'Sean Nelson dished out five assists, tying his career-high.
- Fisher's seven rebounds matched his season high, while Raimey set a career-high with his seven boards.
- DePaul only allowed 56 points, the fewest points the Blue Demons have held a ranked opponent since Nov. 17, 1989 against St. John's (53).
- Jeremiah Oden recorded his seventh double-digit scoring game of the season.
