The Blue Demons drop their match against the Bulldogs
DES MOINES, Iowa. – DePaul men's tennis (5-3) was held off by Drake 0-4 on Friday night. The Blue Demons fought hard but the Bulldogs obtained all four points before DePaul could turn the match around.Â
ÂThe competition started off with doubles at 6 p.m. CT. Jona Gitschel and Shourya Verma teamed up to take on Drake's Reid Jarvis and Matthew Clegg but the duo fell 6-3. Sven Moser and Aleksa Krivokapic paired up for the No.3 doubles spot. The team went to a set tiebreaker but lost 6-7 (7-3).Â
ÂAfter dropping the doubles point, DePaul looked to make a comeback on the singles courts. However, the Bulldogs continued to play strong. Pablo Torres Almeida fell to Jarvis 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 4 singles spot.
ÂLeon Huck battled Oliver Johansson in the No. 2 singles court for three sets. Johansson ultimately won, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Drake captured the fourth point after Olle Sonesson Lidholt defeated Matteo Iaquinto in three sets 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.Â
ÂThe rest of the matches went unfinished. Verma took his opponent to three sets, stopping at 6-7(2-7), 6-2, 4-1. Moser paused his competition on the brink of a tiebreaker 2-6, 1-6, 6-5 and Krivokapic stopped his game up 6-7 (7-4), 6-4, 4-2.Â
