Billie Martin Wins Weight Throw, DMR Breaks Program Records

DePaul bests men and women's DMR times
CHICAGO – DePaul track and field completed day one of the BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday evening. The Blue Demons brought home six medals in four different events.
Billie Martin started the meet by winning the women's weight throw with a final distance of 19.71m, a personal best. This serves as Martin's best finish at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships. Noelle Malkamaki followed behind with a third place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 16.65m.
Program records were shattered in both the men's and women's DMR. The women's team, composed of Nina Amicon, Lauren Pacsi, Alexa Havon and Olivia Borowiak, finished the event with a time of 11:22.15. The relay team bested the program record by five seconds which was set in 2022. The men's squad, made up of Damian Rodriguez, Grant Fuller, Joe Knansihu and Shane Knanishu, completed the DMR with a time of 9:38.26. The time breaks the men's indoor record by over 15 seconds.
On the hurdles, the Blue Demons competed well in both men and women's preliminary heats. Darius Brown won the men's heat with a final time of 7.85 and will look to take home gold in the final on Saturday afternoon. Myles Marshall will also take part in the final. Isabella Hilditch and Amberly Valeriano finished in fourth and fifth, respectively, during the women's heats. Both members of the squad will take part in the final installment of the women's event on Saturday.
Alex Bernstein and Ben Litwin took a trip to the podium for their performance in the men's weight throw. Bernstein finished with a final distance of 19.12m while Litwin followed with a throw of 19.08m.
Action resumes on Saturday, Feb. 25 with field events starting at 10:30 a.m. and track events following at 10:50 a.m.
