Blue Demons Claim Comeback Victory on Day Two of the DePaul Invite

Verma nabbed the deciding match to claim the win against Army
CHICAGO, Ill. – DePaul men's tennis (7-9) earned an exciting 4-3 comeback win against Army on Friday night. The team's victory followed an earlier 2-4 defeat by Cleveland State University.Â
ÂThe Blue Demons kicked off day two of their DePaul Invite with a noon matchup against CSU. DePaul fell early in the contest after losing the doubles point. On the singles side, Leon Huck defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-4 and Pablo Torres Almeida won his match 0-6, 6-2, 6-3. However, CSU captured the remaining three points before the Blue Demons could advance.Â
ÂDePaul's second match of the day was slated for 6 p.m. CT against Army West Point. The Blue Demons gave Army an early lead after dropping the doubles point. The Black Knights extended their advantage following two wins on the singles courts.Â
ÂDePaul, down 0-3, responded with four back-to-back wins on the singles side to win it all. Matteo Iaquinto kicked off the victorious chain reaction following a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) triumph against Vishnu Bodavula.
ÂSven Moser followed suit, nabbing a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win against his opponent, Jake Huarte. Huck found the equalizer after defeating Army's AJ Woodman 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. Down to the last match, Shourya Verma played a hard-fought three set battle against Thomas Lake. Verma came out on top, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to capture DePaul's seventh win of the season.Â
