
DePaul Falls to Marquette in Regular Season Finale

Blue Demons begin 2023 BIG EAST Tournament on Friday as the seven seed
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – It was an early first-quarter deficit that proved to be too much to overcome on Monday night as DePaul closed out the 2022-23 regular season with a 98-80 setback at the hands of Marquette at the Al McGuire Center.
The Blue Demons fell behind by 16 after the first 10 minutes and erase the slow start despite a pair of runs in the third and fourth quarters.
Aneesah Morrow tallied a game-high 29 points behind a career-high with six three-point field goals while Keke Rimmer notched a career-best 21 points to go along with eight rebounds, four assists and four steals.
Junior guard Darrione Rogers also finished in double figures with 15 points in addition to four assists and four rebounds.
The Golden Eagles used a 9-2 run to take a 15-8 lead and force an early DePaul timeout with just four minutes into the first quarter. Marquette stretched their lead to 11, before Morrow found Holmes underneath to cut the deficit to nine, 27-19. The Golden Eagles finished the quarter on a 7-0 run to balloon their lead to 34-18 after 10 minutes of play.
DePaul (15-16, 8-12 BIG EAST) responded with a 7-0 run to open the second quarter with three straight stops and three-consecutive scores to trim the deficit down to nine. The Golden Eagles closed the half on a 12-2 run to take a 53-35 lead into the locker room.
Morrow had 10 first-half points while Rogers and Rimmer chipped in nine apiece. The Golden Eagles shot 56 percent from the field through the first 20 minutes.
The Blue Demons scored five unanswered to start the second half and trigger an early timeout from Marquette. DePaul came as close as 12, before the Golden Eagles stretched their lead to 74-54 heading into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, DePaul came within 11 on a pair of free-throws from Rimmer with under three minutes remaining but came no closer as the Golden Eagles pulled away in the closing moments.
Marquette (20-9, 13-7) saw three finish in double figures led by 26 points from Liza Karlen.
