Big Second Half Leads DePaul Past Xavier 93-48

Blue Demons outscore Musketeers 55-10 in the second half
CHICAGO – A balanced scoring effort and a second-half surge powered DePaul over Xavier 93-48 on Saturday afternoon at Wintrust Arena. The Blue Demons outscored the visiting Musketeers a combined 55-20 in the final two periods to claim the win while dishing out a season-high 29 assists and forcing 30 turnovers.
Four Blue Demons finished in double figures led by sophomore Aneesah Morrow's 30 points, 11 rebounds and seven steals. Morrow collected her 18th double-double this season while shooting 68-percent from the field.
Kendall Holmes matched her season-high with 21 points in addition to six assists, with Darrione Rogers and Keke Rimmer chipping in 17 and 15 points, respectively. Rimmer notched a career-high behind a five-for-six outing from the field including a perfect three-for-three from behind the arc.
Tara Daye shined in her first collegiate start with 12 assists in 36 minutes of action.
The Blue Demons won battle of the boards for the 14th time this season, collecting 41 rebounds to Xavier's 29.
DePaul (12-11, 5-7 BIG EAST) jumped out to an early 16-5 lead behind a 9-0 run which saw five different Blue Demons net a basket. Behind 10 first-quarter points from Morrow and 56-percent shooting from the field as a team, the Blue Demons held a 21-7 lead advantage after the first 10 minutes.
Xavier (7-16, 0-14) scored nine unanswered to trim the Blue Demons lead to 29-18 and force a timeout halfway through the second quarter. DePaul would be held without a field goal for the final two minutes prior to the intermission, but took a 38-28 lead into the locker room.
After 20 minutes, Morrow had a game-high 18 points while Rogers and Holmes had seven apiece.
The Blue Demons used a seven-point run midway through the third to take their largest lead of the game thus far jumping in front, 51-33, after Rogers successfully completed a three-point play. DePaul outscored the Musketeers 25-10 in the period, to take a 63-38 lead into the final 10 minutes of action.
DePaul widened their lead in the fourth quarter with Holmes and Rimmer combining for 19 of the team's 30 points in the period while stifling the Musketeers to just 10 points to clinch the league victory.
Fernanda Ovalle led Xavier with 16 points.
