CHICAGO – DePaul women's basketball head coach Doug Bruno announced on Friday the signing of freshman guard Shakara McCline.
McCline, a 5-6 point guard out of East St. Louis, Ill., joins the Blue Demons program after spending four years at East St. Louis Senior High School and leading the St. Louis metro area in scoring with 26.0 points per game in her senior season.
Coach Bruno on McCline "Shakara is a great lead guard, who can get to the rim and knock down the three at an efficient clip. We look forward to welcoming Shakara and her family to our DePaul program."
McCline on DePaul "I chose to attend DePaul University because of the diverse culture and outstanding athletic program. Visiting for the first time made me even more eager to attend as everyone was so welcoming and supporting. I look forward to exploring the campus, building relationships with my teammates and professors as well as joining different organizations that will allow me to grow personally and professionally."
During the 2022-23 season, McCline finished in double figures in 25 of 26 games including a pair of 42-point performances. As a senior, McCline ranked second in the Southwestern Conference with 84 made three-point field goals while shooting at a blistering 54.5% clip. McCline poured in over 1,500 points in her high school career with the Flyers.
McCline joins fellow first-years Sumer Lee and Grace Carstensen alongside Michigan transfer Michelle Sidor as the Blue Demon newcomers set to join the program this summer.
