DePaul Concludes NCAA West First Round

Hopf completes the Blue Demons quartet of competitors on Saturday evening
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The DePaul track and field team concluded their 2022-23 season at the NCAA West First Round on Saturday evening. Jaiah Hopf was the final competitor for the Blue Demons, taking on the women's triple jump.
Hopf earned a final mark of 12.11m in her final competition of her freshman season. Hopf owns the program record for both the indoor and outdoor triple jump. The Wauwatosa, Wis. native earned a second place finish in the long jump at the 2023 BIG EAST Indoor Championships and broke the long jump record twice throughout the indoor season. Hopf set the current outdoor record at the Black and Gold Invite, her first outdoor meet of her career.
Alex Bernstein, Darius Brown and Tori Carroll, the three other members of the DePaul track and field team who qualified for the NCAA West First Round, each had impressive seasons.
Alex Bernstein was crowned the 2023 BIG EAST Outdoor Champion in the men's hammer throw and earned first place finishes in all four outdoor meets he participated in. The sophomore earned his first nod to the NCAA West First Round during the 2022-23 season and placed within the top-25 with a final mark of 63.01m.
Darius Brown took home gold in the men's 110m hurdles and silver in the men's 400m hurdles at the 2023 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. The sophomore currently holds the school record times in both events, and qualified for the NCAA West First Round for the second-straight season. Brown competed in the 110m hurdles quarterfinal in Sacramento, placing 11th with a time of 13.66.
Tori Carroll brought home her second consecutive BIG EAST championship in the long jump during the 2023 Outdoor Championships and qualified for her third-straight NCAA West First Round. The senior placed top-30 in the long jump in NCAA West First Round action. Carroll earned top-three finishes in two of the three outdoor meets she competed in during the 2023 season.
