Volleyball Earns USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for 16th-Consecutive Year

Blue Demons receive honor roll distinction for recording team GPA in the top 20-percent of Division I
Lexington, Ky. — The United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced on Thursday the recipients of the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2022-23 academic year. DePaul volleyball was honored for the 16th-consecutive year and the 17th time in the last 18 seasons. The award, given out annually, honors volleyball teams that maintain a high-level of success in the classroom.
Celebrating the 31st year of the recognition program, the Team Academic Award honors volleyball programs that maintain a minimum year-long grade-point average (GPA) of 3.30. The Blue Demons closed out the year with a 3.728 cumulative GPA. Additionally, DePaul received honor roll distinction for landing in the top 20-percent of team GPA's in all of Division I.
"The commitment our coaches make to help their student-athletes pursue the best versions of themselves is evident in the academic accomplishments highlighted today." said AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "Achievement on the court has always been closely tied to success in the classroom which is reflected by the number of championship programs honored."
DePaul was honored alongside 201 NCAA Division I women's programs including eight other BIG EAST squads.
The Blue Demons will open the 2023 fall season on Saturday, August 26 against South Dakota at the Cardinal & Gold Challenge in Ames, Iowa. Prior to the regular-season opener, head coach Marie Zidek and Co. will host Bradley for an exhibition match at McGrath-Phillips Arena on Saturday, August 19.Â
