2023 Cross Country Schedule
CHICAGO – DePaul cross country announced its 2023 schedule, Friday evening. The schedule features three invitationals hosted by local programs before the postseason begins in October with the BIG EAST Championship.Â
Â"I'm very excited to build on last year with teams that have a decidedly different feel this fall in Lincoln Park, " said associate head cross country coach Geoff Wayton. "We have a nice mixture of veterans and newcomers who bring with them a fresh positive energy."
ÂThe Blue Demons welcome 11 newcomers to the 2023 roster in addition to 17 key returners.Â
Â"Our newcomers all hail from excellent programs with winning traditions and outstanding coaches. I'm encouraged by the character of our newcomers. On the women's side, we return our entire roster from last year- a team which had the highest Big East finish in school history. I'm excited to watch our women's team come together- Olivia Borowiak was 6th at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships last year, and Nina Amicon and Meghan Dieball really showed some incredible improvement on the track. Meaghan Andrews and Maddie Volz gained a lot of experience for us last year as our 4th-5th runners-Â and we have a lot of newcomers and veterans to back them up. Our goal is simply to improve on last year's results."
"On the men's side, despite losing our top 1-2 from a year ago to graduation- we return a solid veteran group with some exciting newcomers. On the men's side, our veterans are led by our former school-record-holder in the 1500 meter run Damian Rodriguez. Damian was our 3rd runner in 2022. Also returning are Tommy Elwood, Joe Knannishu, Mike Ronzone, Will Previdi, and Griffin Lehnhardt who all made big strides on the track in 2022. We're excited to improve on last year's results!"
ÂDePaul opens its 2023 tenure with the Bradley Invitational in Peoria, Ill. on Friday, Sept. 15.Â
ÂThe second meet of the season is the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational, scheduled for Friday, Sept. 29. The meet hosted along the Chicago lakefront poses as DePaul's Alumni Day.
ÂAfter the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational, the Blue Demons head back to Peoria for the Bradley Pink Invitational on Friday, Oct. 13, before opening their postseason slate with the BIG EAST Championships hosted in Kenosha, Wis. on Saturday, Oct. 28th.Â
ÂLast season at the BIG EAST Championships, veteran runner Olivia Borowaik etched her name into the record books after claiming 11th place in the women's 6k, earning her the highest place in DePaul history and setting a school record with her 20:11 time. The women's team placed sixth overall, the highest place finish for the women's team since joining the BIG EAST, while the men earned a fifth place finish trying their highest placement in program history.Â
ÂNCAA Midwest Regionals are set for Nov. 10 in Stillwater, Okla. while NCAA Championships will be hosted on Nov. 18, in Charlottesville, Va.
