Both the men’s and women’s teams bring home silver
PEORIA, Ill. – The DePaul men's and women's cross country teams both brought home silver after placing second in their respective events at the Bradley Intercollegiate, Friday evening. Olivia Borowiak notched a second place finish overall in the women's 3 mile race, almost breaking the previous course record.Â
Â"On the men's side, Jacob Holmes had a great race and closed really well," said coach Geoff Wayton. "Our top three, Jacob, Damian and Tommy all ran great. But our four through eight runners were too far back. They just need to work themselves back up, but I know they will. We just came in a little less sharp then we did a year ago, except Tommy, who actually ran the same time and then Damien who also ran the same time but it's a much longer course this year. So signs of improvement there. The freshman ran their first race and learned a lot."Â
Â"On the women's side, Liv ran a little bit faster than last year, just off what used to be the course record. Ran a really aggressive race out front and Nina did a great job - just got caught alone, but ran a nice confident race. Violet ran one of the best races of her career. She really did a great job stepping up. Lesley Viveros also had a great race, running 1:37 seconds faster than she did a year ago. We ran a lot of younger people. Gianna Sanchez ran a good race for us. A lot of freshmen ran a great race but our veterans really stepped up."
ÂThe men started off the meet with an 8k at 5:15. Jacob Holmes led the pack coming in fifth place with a final time of 24:23.90. Seniors Damian Rodriguez and Tommy Elwood followed behind, earning ninth and 11th place, respectively. Junior Griffin Lehnhardt took 18th with a final time of 25:05.20 and sophomore William Previdi notched 21st with a 25:18.20 time.Â
ÂOn the women's side, Borowiak claimed her second place finish with a final time of 16:21.90. Nina Amicon took fifth place with a final time of 16:59.90, while Violet Harper took 11th, with a 17:52.00 time. Junior Madison Volz took 15th with a 17:59.60 time and Meaghan Andrews followed directly behind in 16th place finish with a 18:05.80 time. The rest of the women placed within the top 50 spots.Â
