Blue Demons earn three doubles victories Friday, will compete in Saturday consolation
LANSING, Mich. – After three Blue Demon doubles teams advanced to the Round of 32 at the ITA Midwest Regionals on Friday afternoon, DePaul men's tennis could not sustain its momentum beyond the second round of the Main Draw.
The Blue Demons started strong Friday morning, with three of four pairings earning spots in the Round of 32.
A withdrawal allowed Sven Moser and Pablo Torres Almeida to advance automatically.
Quang Vinh Nguyen and Thomas Giles opened the day by defeating Northwestern's Jackson Caldwell and Saiprakash Goli, 8-6.
Andy Hadziabdic and Jona Gistchel followed with an 8-7 (8-6) tiebreak win over Luis Llorens Saracho and Brian Bilsey.
Despite their strong start, DePaul could not capitalize in the Round of 32, losing all three doubles matches.
In singles play, Matteo Iaquinto and Tobias Leitner fell in the Main Draw, ending the Blue Demons' run at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships.
The Blue Demons will participate in the Regionals' consolation draw, Saturday, Oct. 12.
