CHICAGO – A 13-year NBA veteran and All-American, DePaul Athletics has officially announced that Dave Corzine's jersey will be retired this upcoming year.
Corzine was surprised with the news during Tuesday's on-air radio broadcast by DePaul Vice President and Director of Athletics, DeWayne Peevy. His jersey will join Mark Aguirre, Terry Cummings and George Mikan as DePaul's retired jerseys in the rafters of Wintrust Arena. National Players of the Year remain the only retired numbers in program history (No. 24, Mark Aguirre and No. 99, George Mikan). The official jersey retirement will take place at halftime of DePaul's Feb. 22 game against Butler.
An Arlington Heights native, Corzine arrived at DePaul in 1974 where he would play four seasons under legendary coach Ray Meyer, and graduate as DePaul's all-time leading scorer and rebounder. While his rebounds remain the program career record, Corzine's career scoring total would quickly be broken by Mark Aguirre. His 1,896 career points remain fourth all-time, while his 1,151 career rebounds make him the only DePaul player to ever eclipse 1,000 career rebounds.
With a long list of accolades, Corzine is well known among DePaul fans for his 46-point performance against Louisville in the 1978 NCAA Tournament which sent the Blue Demons to the Elite Eight. He is one of seven all-time DePaul players to score 40 or more points in a game and the 46 points remain as the fourth highest scoring game by a Blue Demon student-athlete.
Corzine was named a 1978 Honorable Mention All-American before being drafted as the 18th overall pick in the first round of the NBA Draft by the Washington Bullets. Corzine would have a successful NBA career that spanned 13 seasons with five different teams. Throughout his pro career, Corzine scored 7,615 career points and 5,262 career rebounds. He helped lead the Washington Bullets to the 1979 NBA Finals, and also played for the Chicago Bulls from 1982-89.
Following his playing career, Corzine has remained active in the University previously serving as Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics for Community Outreach and currently as the color analyst on DePaul men's basketball radio broadcasts.
