Blue Demons Welcome Shockers Saturday

CHICAGO – After dropping its last two contests, the DePaul men's basketball team looks to rebound as the Blue Demons host Wichita State at Wintrust Arena, Saturday, Dec. 14. The game is slated for a 12 p.m. CT tip on FS1 with Connor Onion and Stephen Bardo on the call. DePaul's radio broadcast with Zach Zaidman and Dave Corzine will be carried on 670 The Score, Sirius XM and DePaul Blue Demons app.
LAST TIME OUT
David Skogman had a game-high 22 points on Tuesday in the Blue Demons overtime game against Providence. Skogman made a career-high six three-pointers enroute to his fifth career game with 20 or more points. Despite the strong performance, Providence fought back late in the second half to force the third overtime game in the last four years between the two programs. The Friars eventually secured the overtime victory shooting 3-of-5 in the extra period.
SCOUTING DEPAUL
DePaul (7-2, 0-1 BIG EAST) continues to rely on the three-point ball, as the Blue Demons rank third nationally with over 12 made threes per game. The team is also doing so at a 39.1 percent clip, which ranks top-25 nationally. Jacob Meyer leads the effort from deep, shooting over 44 percent on the season with 24 made three-pointers. Skogman, Isaiah Rivera and JJ Traynor are all also shooting above 40 percent.
The Blue Demons defensive efforts has held opponents to shooting 28.2 percent from three-point range, a mark which leads all BIG EAST teams. That is a number that has also dipped to below 22.5 percent in the second half from opponents.
THE SERIES
The all-time series between the two teams is split, 4-4, all-time. Wichita State owns the last two wins in the series, the last coming Nov. 25, 2013 in Kansas City, Mo. DePaul is 3-0 in the all-time series in games played at home.
As a true freshman at Coastal Carolina, Jacob Meyer played against the Shockers last season in a game where he scored 11 points, nine rebounds and three assists.
SCOUTING WICHITA STATE
Wichita State (8-1, 0-0 AAC) enters Saturday's game for its final road game of the non-conference schedule. The Shockers are coming off back-to-back wins against Alcorn State and East Tennessee State, including a 96-87 win against ETSU where Wichita State had a season-high field goal percentage.
The Shockers are led in scoring by Justin Hill who is averaging 14.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. The fifth-year player is in his first season with Wichita State after appearing in 37 games over the last two seasons for Georgia. Paul Mills is in his second season at the helm of the Shockers program after taking Oral Roberts to a pair of NCAA Tournaments, including the 2021 Sweet Sixteen.

DePaul will face its second conference test of the season next week as they travel to St. John's for a midweek matchup on Tuesday, Dec. 17. The Blue Demons will tip against St. John's at 5:30 p.m. CT on Peacock.
