Trio of Blue Demons Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

Cwick, Nigey and Johnson all tabbed to conference honors on Monday
CHICAGO - A trio of DePaul softball players earned BIG EAST Weekly Honors on Monday, as announced by the conference. Brooke Cwick was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week while Brooke Johnson and Bella Nigey earned nods to the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
Cwick was named Freshman of the Week for the first time in her career. The Park Ridge, Ill. native went 4-11 (.364) in the designated player position during home opening weekend, scoring two runs and recording five RBIs on four hits. Cwick's second hit in the doubleheader, a single to right center, ultimately sent the winning run to the plate to take the series win against Georgetown.
Nigey earned her first honor of the season, being named to the Honor Roll. The sophomore appeared in all three games against Georgetown, throwing a total of 9.0 innings and giving up six hits throughout the weekend. The Bettendorf, Iowa native added 13 strikeouts during the series, seven of which came on Saturday for a new career-best. Nigey earned her first save of the season in game one on Sunday, pitching 3.0 innings and allowing one walk and no hits. The sophomore owns a team-best ERA of 3.28 and has moved to an overall record of 4-5.
Johnson was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the second consecutive week after recording an overall line of 4-9 (.444) against Georgetown. The fifth year senior scored four runs, added two RBIs and tallied her seventh home run of the season throughout the series. Johnson owns a seven-game hit streak and scored a run in the fifth inning of the second game of Sunday's doubleheader to tie the game. Â
