Brown prepares for finals
CHICAGO – DePaul track and field completed the second of competition at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, Friday afternoon. Darius Brown and Jaiah Hopf both topped their previous school records in their designated events.
"It was a really solid day for us," said head coach Dave Dopek. "All three relay teams had solid opening performances for the year and our 100m runners looked really good today. The big performances were Darius qualifying for finals with a PR in the hurdles and Jaiah's massive PR in the W Triple Jump. Adding those two to Charlotte's big throw yesterday in the javelin has really helped shape this meet into a successful trip. One more race to go!"
Yesterday, Charlotte Anderson collected DePaul's first top-three finish in Austin after she earned second place in the women's javelin throw with a new personal best mark of 48.91m. Alex Bernstein followed with his performance in the men's hammer throw, placing sixth overall with a final throw of 65.13.
Today, the men's 4x100m relay kicked off the competition. Dominic Cole, Cameron Attucks, Brown and Charles Lewis took 17th overall with a final time of 40.45.
Brown conquered the men's 110m hurdle prelims, taking third overall and breaking his previous school record with a final time of 13.61. The Blue Demon won his heat, guaranteeing him a spot in tomorrow's finals at 2:32 p.m.
In the men's 100m prelims, Cole earned 38th, tying his personal best with a final time of 10.46. Cameron Attucks followed with a final time of 10.61. On the women's side, Jetta Mays placed 15th overall in the women's 100m prelims with a final time of 11.69.
In the men's 4x400m relay, Brown, Lewis, Daniel Fasasi and Jarel Terry earned eight overall with a final time of 3:11.53, just .51 seconds off the school record. On the women's side, Kayliah Motes, Nadja Moll, Sonja Nagle and Claire Dunn ran a final time of 3:45.18.
To round out today's competition, Sophomore Jaiah Hopf dominated the women's triple jump, taking first and breaking her all-conditions school record of 13.08m (+2.8 m/s).
