48 Blue Demons compete this weekend
CHICAGO – DePaul Track and Field travels to Azusa, Calif and Champaign, Ill for a competition filled weekend. Seven Blue Demons start competition on Friday at the annual Bryan Clay Invitational before 41 athletes participate in the University of Illinois' Gary Wieneke Memorial Meet on Saturday.
In California, Nina Amicon, Olivia Borowiak, Meghan Dieball, Alexa Havon, Isabella Orozco, Tommy Elwood and Damian Rodriguez are set to compete in a variety of distance events beginning Friday at 11:50 am CT and continuing into Saturday.
Last weekend, Rodriguez dominated the men's 800m at the Chicagoland Championships with a school record breaking time of 1:49.81. Dieball earned a new personal best with a second place finish and a final time of 2:11.67. At the Stanford Invitational on March 30, Borowiak broke her previous outdoor record in the women's 5000m race with a time of 16:12.73.
Competition at the Gary Wieneke Memorial Meet begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday with Kash Allen, the Chicagoland Championship women's shot put winner, set to throw. Last weekend, the Blue Demon dominated her event, earning a new personal best mark of 15.11m.
The all-conditions school record breaker, Jaiah Hopf, is scheduled to participate in the women's triple jump at 3:15 p.m. Hopf was most recently named BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week on Apr. 3, for her record breaking mark of 13.08m (+2.8 m/s) at the Texas Relays on March 29.
On the oval, freshman Gianna Sanchez looks for another successful race in the women's 1500m at 1:15 p.m. after dominating the women's 5000m at the Chicagoland Championships last weekend with a first place finish and time of 18:12.54.
Darius Brown and Paul Goins take on the men's 110m hurdles at 2:10 p.m. Brown returns to the event after breaking his previous school record at the Texas Relays on March 29 with a time of 13.61.
Fans can expect to see Joshua Edmonds, Daniel Fasasi and Jarel Terry competing in the men's 400m race at 2:25 p.m. Edmonds earned first in the event last weekend with a time of 49.44 at the Chicagoland Championships. Saturday concludes with the women's 4x400m relay at 4:55 p.m.
