Thomas joins DePaul roster after standout freshman season
CHICAGO – DePaul men's basketball head coach Chris Holtmann officially announced the addition of David Thomas to the Blue Demons roster, Tuesday morning. Thomas joins DePaul following a standout freshman season at Mercer and has three remaining years of eligibility.
"David is a young, athletic guard who has the ability to shoot the ball at a high level," said Holtmann. "He can guard multiple positions due to his strength. While he had a good first year at Mercer, I know David is excited about competing for DePaul and continuing to grow his game here."
In his first season of collegiate basketball, Thomas averaged 11.0 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game for the Bears. The McDonough, Ga. native played in 31 games for Mercer, including eight start and led the Bears with a team-high 70 assists. Thomas shot 45.2 percent from the floor over the course of the season, including 40.2 percent from three-point range.
Thomas ended his freshman campaign with nine-straight double-digit scoring efforts, including a career-high 27 points against The Citadel on 10-of-15 shooting and five three-pointers in the SoCon Tournament.
Thomas attended Eagles Landing High School where he was the regional Player of the Year as a senior, averaging 21 points per game, while helping his team to back-to-back Regional Championships.
