Blue Demons set to host 14 matches at McGrath-Phillips Arena
CHICAGO - DePaul volleyball head coach Marie Zidek announced the 2024 schedule, Thursday morning.
The 2024 season marks the 50th season in program history for DePaul Volleyball.
The Blue Demons will host Northern Illinois for an exhibition at McGrath-Phillips Arena on Aug. 24.Â
The regular season will begin at the Bradley Tournament, Aug. 30-Sept 1. DePaul will meet hosts Bradley, Southern Indiana and St. Thomas during the first weekend of the season.Â
The team then heads to Southern California for the San Diego State Tournament on Sept. 5-7. The Blue Demons will take on San Diego State, Tulane and Portland State.Â
"The Fall 2024 season has a great rhythm to it," said Zidek. "We start right off the bat with two non-conference weekends against teams hungry to make their mark. First weekend every team is going to be looking to establish offensive balance. We take on a completely new feel in the second weekend when facing San Diego State, Tulare, and Portland State. Both of these first weekends will be a test to how we handle road swings and it will be super important we find our team chemistry fast."
DePaul returns back to Chicago for the third and fourth weekends of the season. The Blue Demons will open up home play at McGrath-Phillips Arena against Colorado State on Sept. 12. The rest of the weekend will serve as the DePaul Invite and will include matches against Brown and Bowling Green.Â
The Chicago Cup will take place on Sept. 19-21. The Blue Demons will meet local teams Milwaukee, UIC and Loyola in the event.Â
BIG EAST play begins on Wednesday, Sept. 25 as the Blue Demons welcome Xavier to Chicago and then hit the road to take on Butler on Sept. 27.
Villanova and St. John's are set to visit Lincoln Park Oct. 4 and 6, respectively, before the Blue Demons visit Marquette and Creighton Oct. 18 and 20.Â
A four-game homestand begins with a visit from Providence on Oct. 25 and wraps up with Georgetown on Nov. 3. DePaul then heads on a four game road swing starting at St. John's on Nov. 8 and ending at Providence on Nov. 16.Â
The regular season concludes with a pair of home matches, as Creighton and Marquette come to Chicago on Nov. 22 and 24, respectively.
The 2024 BIG EAST Championship will be hosted by Creighton on Nov. 27-30 at the D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha, Neb. The field will be made up of the top-six teams in the conference, with the top two earning a bye.
"We look forward to what we are chasing as a group ...a confident preseason training block, quick non conference start, another strong showing in conference play, a conference tournament berth, and a postseason appearance," said Zidek. "We are hunting for something special that requires a group effort and hope to have the courage to do what it takes and become who it takes to truly championship chase."
Zidek and Co. return 11 letterwinners from the 2023 roster while welcoming four newcomers. Among the 11 returners is All-BIG EAST Team selections Jill Pressly and Rachel Krasowski who will be completing their final year of eligibility.
Season tickets are now on sale here. Single game tickets and group tickets will be on sale at a later date. Television coverage and remaining match times will be announced at a late date.
