DePaul begins fall slate at NIU
DeKalb, Ill. – DePaul cross country is set to open its 2024 campaign at the Huskie Invite in DeKalb, Ill., Friday, Sept. 6. The women's 5k race is slated for 5:30 p.m. CT and the men's four-mile race for 6:10 p.m. CT, at the North 40 Championships Cross Country Course.
Key returners for the Blue Demons include Meaghan Andrews, Meghan Dieball, Joe Knanishu, Griffin Lehnhardt, Damian Rodriguez, and Madison Volz. DePaul welcomes eight new runners, including six freshmen, junior John Bush, and graduate student Dustin Hudak.
"The makeup of both teams is much different this year," said associate head cross country coach Geoff Wayton. "We have a great mix of veterans and newcomers on both sides. We're excited to see what happens when the gun is fired and get a better feeling for our team chemistry."
DePaul last made the trip to DeKalb in Aug. 2014, however, the invitational was canceled due to inclement weather.
The Blue Demons last participated in the event in Sept. 2012, where the men took home third place with an average time of 19:31.82, and the women finished fifth with an average time of 19:57.40.
Among the schools competing include Chicago State, Highland CC, Kishwaukee College, McKendree, Northwestern, Sauk Valley CC, Western Illinois, and DePaul.
The North 40 Championship Course was host to the 2011 NCAA Midwest Regional XC Championships, as well as the 2019 Mid‐American Conference (MAC) Cross Country Championships. The course terrain ranges from flat, rolling, and steady inclines.
Per NIU, the course is very spectator friendly with many great vantage points. There is a paved bike path next to the course that can be utilized for warm‐ups and cool‐downs.
