Gary, Hopf Sweep BIG EAST Field Athlete of the Week Awards

Jaiden Gary and Jaiah Hopf honored for performances at Wisconsin Midwest Invite
CHICAGO – DePaul track and field student athletes Jaiah Hopf and Jaiden Gary earned BIG EAST weekly honors following standout performances at the Wisconsin Midwest Invite, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. Hopf earned her second consecutive BIG EAST Women's Field Athlete of the Week award, while Gary was named BIG EAST Men's Field Athlete of the Week, the first of his collegiate career.
With the BIG EAST Conference not meeting the minimum number of schools (just four competed) to announce weekly awards on Tuesday, Jan. 14, the conference combined competition results from the past two weekends for awards consideration.
Hopf, a junior, shattered her own school record in the triple jump with a remarkable distance of 12.75m to secure first place at the Wisconsin Midwest Invite on Saturday, Jan. 11. This performance ranks first in the BIG EAST for the event this season and marks her third career BIG EAST weekly honor.
Hopf previously earned the recognition on Dec. 13, 2023, and April 3, 2024, demonstrating her consistency and excellence in field events. Her latest jump solidifies her as one of the top competitors in the conference.
Gary, a standout student-athlete, showcased his growth at the Wisconsin Midwest Invite, setting personal records in both the weight throw (15.21m) and shot put (18.58m). His impressive shot put mark secured a fourth-place finish at the meet and currently ranks first in the BIG EAST for the season.
Gary's breakout season includes a first-place shot put finish on Saturday, Jan. 18, at the Pat Heenan Invitational, where he recorded a throw of 17.18m. His continued growth adds further excitement to the future of DePaul's track and field program.
