Nilsson and Smith Fall in Round of 16

Duo finishes 2-1 at ITA Midwest Regionals
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Doubles pair Clara Nilsson and Hannah Smith lost 8-3 in their main draw round of 16 match to Bianca Molnar/Bojana Pozder of Notre Dame on Saturday morning at the Atkins Tennis Center.
Coming into the match, Nilsson and Smith won three consecutive contests after finishing 2-0 on Friday, outscoring opponents 16-3 in the process.
After getting ahead with quick starts in each of the first two matches, Nilsson and Smith weren't able to control the match early. The Irish tandem proved too much, and now head to the quarterfinals.
Molnar and Pozder received a bye through the round of 64 and defeated Rose Seccia and Ariel Madatali of Illinois on their path to face Nilsson and Smith.
In consolation singles, three Blue Demons competed on the third day of the tournament. Smith faced Ohio State's Flora Johnson, battling in a tight first set, losing 7-6. Johnson used the momentum in the second frame, winning 6-1 to take the match.
Yasemin Pehlivan played against Maya Bordereau of Wisconsin. Both sets were thrilling back-and-forth affairs, but Bordereau ultimately came out on top, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5).
The Blue Demons secured a win from Sasha Stula in the consolation singles round of 32. Stula controlled the match versus Notre Dame's Jessica Kovalcik for the 6-4, 6-4 victory.
