Blue Demons sign talented middle from San Diego
CHICAGO – DePaul volleyball officially announced its first addition for the 2026 season in incoming-freshman Catalina Alvizuri. Hailing from San Diego, Calif., Alvizuri will join the Blue Demons following a standout high school and prep career.
"Cati brings great instincts to the middle position," said head coach Marie Zidek. "She has the ability to work with game intelligence in order to impact matches. In the BIG EAST, we need players that bring certain levels of game intelligence right away to their positions if we hope to compete in a league that's routinely top five in the country. We welcome Cati's game, her work ethic and coachability and we look forward to the impact she will provide our program."
Alvizuri played four seasons of indoor varsity volleyball for Mt. Carmel High School, in addition to two seasons of beach volleyball. She helped lead Mt. Carmel to a runner-up finish in their league this fall while concluding her standout career. As a senior, Alvizuri tallied 301 kills with a .439 hitting percentage and 82 blocks. She was a three-time All-League honoree, including back-to-back first team accolades as a junior and senior.
Additionally, Alvizuri plays club volleyball at Coast Volleyball Club where she helped her team win the Northern Lights USAV Qualifier 17 Open Division.
Alvizuri joins the Blue Demons squad poised to return nearly 75 percent of its scoring from the 2025 season where DePaul went 14-13. The Blue Demons look to return to the BIG EAST Tournament for the fourth time in the last six seasons.
