Blue Demons earn first ITA ranking since 2012
CHICAGO – Ahead of the first annual George Lott Classic and DePaul men's tennis' first home matches of the season, the Blue Demons were ranked No. 61 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division I Men's Top 75 Team Rankings, marking their first appearance since March 21, 2012, when they were ranked No. 75. This ranking sits 11 spots shy of their program-best No. 50 ranking in 2009.
The George Lott Classic, set for Feb. 21-22 at XS Tennis Village, honors former coach and tennis legend George Lott. On Feb. 25, 2024, DePaul dedicated a court at its home facility as George Lott Court, permanently enshrining his legacy within the program. During the ceremony, head coach Matt Brothers announced the renaming of the annual DePaul Invitational to the George Lott Classic, ensuring Lott's impact continues to be celebrated.
The Blue Demons (4-5, 1-0 BIG EAST) will take on Northern Illinois on Friday at 10:15 a.m. CT, followed by matches against Belmont at 9:30 a.m. CT and Eastern Kentucky at 5:30 p.m. CT on Saturday. For George Lott Classic streaming and live stats information, click here.
In recent ITA rankings, DePaul's last three opponents have also been recognized: No. 38 Arizona State, No. 62 Grand Canyon, and No. 29 Indiana. In their last match, the Blue Demons fell to Indiana on Sunday, Feb. 16, in a 6-1 decision in Bloomington, Ind. Senior Matteo Iaquinto secured DePaul's lone point at No. 1 singles with a 7-6 (11-9), 6-4 victory. The team aims to capitalize on their home-court advantage in the upcoming weekend of duals.
