DePaul drops key third sets

MOBILE, Ala. – After falling in five first sets in singles, DePaul men's tennis rallied back to give itself a chance in four third-set thrillers, closing the gap to 3-2, but ultimately could not withstand the late pressure and dropped Wednesday's battle in a 5-2 decision.

The Blue Demons (12-9, 3-1 BIG EAST) fell behind in doubles after dropping the top two courts, 6-4 and 6-3, with South Alabama taking the early lead heading into singles play.

What initially looked like a dominant showing from South Alabama turned into a tightly contested fight. Marko Milosavljevic leveled the match at 1-1 with a convincing 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 3. The Jaguars answered with singles victories at No. 5 and No. 1 to regain the lead, but Pablo Torres Almeida responded at No. 2, mounting a dramatic comeback to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 and swing the momentum back toward DePaul.

With two matches remaining and the Blue Demons needing both to clinch, Quang Vinh Nguyen and Andy Hadziabdic each forced deciding sets after dropping their openers. Despite the push, South Alabama held on in both contests to seal the match at 5-2.
