The pair of throwers earn weekly conference recognitions
CHICAGO – DePaul track and field's Alex Bernstein and Kash Allen have been named Men's and Women's BIG EAST Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, following standout performances at the Gary Wieneke Memorial Invitational, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon.
Bernstein, a senior from Penwortham, Preston, England, claimed the top spot in the men's hammer throw with a mark of 66.51m—his best performance of the season. The throw leads the BIG EAST by nearly 5.5 meters and ranks 31st in NCAA Division I. It marks the fifth BIG EAST weekly honor of Bernstein's career and his first of the outdoor season, with his most recent recognition coming on Feb. 18 after earning back-to-back awards during indoor competition.
Allen, a graduate student from Phoenix, Ariz., shattered her own school record in the women's shot put with a toss of 16.10m to finish second overall. The mark leads the BIG EAST by over half a meter and reaffirms Allen's place among the league's top throwers. This marks the second BIG EAST weekly honor of her career, following her first in April 2024 after winning her third consecutive shot put title at the Gibson Invitational.
The duo helped DePaul close out the regular season with eight event wins and three program records in Champaign.
