DePaul improves to 5-2 in league play behind stellar offense
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Led by dominant offensive performances from Jade Dudley-Epps and Isabela Tavares Salomon, DePaul volleyball plundered Walsh Gymnasium on Friday night, capturing a 3-1 (25-14, 24-26, 25-16, 25-21) victory over Seton Hall. The Blue Demons move to 13-5 and 5-2 in the conference, while the Pirates slide to 8-11 and 0-7.
"Great training for us in learning how to win in different ways and through different play sets," said head coach Marie Zidek. "Everything we've been trying to add showed up in this match, and Seton Hall pushed us to the limit. Heck of an effort too by Jade to step up and help the team fight to the finish."
Dudley-Epps paced the attack with a career-high 19 kills while hitting an exceptional .500 on 34 swings. Tavares Salomon added 15 kills and three block assists, while Jocelyn Paige chipped in five kills and four blocks. Leonor Polezzi dished out 43 assists, adding 15 digs, three service aces, and a block. Defensively, the Blue Demons featured four players with double-digit digs, anchored by Abby Cahill with a team-high 16 digs alongside three service aces. Eva Hurrle, Martina Diana, and Polezzi also surpassed the 10-dig mark.
How it Happened
SET ONE | DePaul asserted control early, hitting .385 in the opening frame. Trailing 4-3, the Blue Demons used a service run from Polezzi, featuring consecutive aces, to spark a surge. DePaul pulled away late with a 10-0 run behind strong serving from Cahill to comfortably close out the set 25-14.
SET TWO | Seton Hall responded in a tightly-contested second frame that featured 12 ties and nine lead changes. DePaul clawed back from a late deficit to reach set point at 24-22, but the Pirates rattled off four-straight points to steal the set 26-24 and level the match.
SET THREE | The Blue Demons bounced back aggressively in the third, outhitting Seton Hall .310 to .143. DePaul quickly built a double-digit cushion fueled by aggressive serving and precise distribution from Polezzi, cruising to a 25-16 victory to regain a 2-1 match lead.
SET FOUR | DePaul sealed the match in the fourth set, jumping out to an early advantage and fending off a late Seton Hall push. Tavares Salomon and Dudley-Epps delivered kills down the stretch, and a Seton Hall attacking error finalized the 25-21 score, securing the 3-1 road victory.
