Goalkeeper records clean sheet in scoreless draw versus St. John's
CHICAGO – DePaul fifth-year goalkeeper Chance Johnson was named to the BIG EAST Men's Soccer Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office announced Monday. It is the first weekly conference honor of his career.
The Mustang, Oklahoma, native stopped all five St. John's shots on goal Friday afternoon to backstop the Blue Demons to a 0-0 draw at Wish Field. The shutout was his first of the season and the third of his career.
Johnson did his heaviest lifting in the first half, making four saves between the 18th and 28th minutes as the Red Storm outshot DePaul 8-2 over the opening 45 minutes. After DePaul took control in the second half with a 12-5 shot advantage, Johnson preserved the point with a stop in the 86th minute.
DePaul (3-3-5, 1-1-2 BIG EAST) continues its homestand Tuesday, Oct. 20, when it hosts Western Michigan in its final nonconference match of the season at Wish Field. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. CT, with the match streaming on Marquee Sports Network.
