Blue Demons narrow margin to 3-2 in singles play, fall 5-2

EVANSTON, Ill. – DePaul men's tennis claimed a pair of singles matches Saturday but came up short in a 5-2 decision against Denver at Combe Tennis Center. The Pioneers took the doubles point to seize early momentum.

The Blue Demons opened doubles with an assertive performance at the top spot, where Tobias Leitner and Sebastian Medica controlled the baseline exchanges in a 6-4 victory. Denver countered on courts two and three to secure the opening point.

In singles, a straight-set result at No. 2 pushed Denver ahead 2-0 before DePaul answered. At No. 4, Andy Hadziabdic settled into long rallies and pulled away late in both sets, earning a 7-5, 6-1 win to put DePaul on the board.

Denver gained a 3-1 advantage with a three-set decision at No. 3, but the Blue Demons responded again. Sebastian Medica delivered in a pivotal moment at No. 5, navigating a tightly contested first-set tiebreak before closing out a 7-6(6), 6-4 victory to trim the deficit to 3-2.

With momentum shifting, both remaining courts moved to deciding sets. Denver claimed each to finalize the 5-2 outcome.
