Blue Demons Surge Past Marquette Sunday Night

DePaul with second most BIG EAST wins in program history
MILWAUKEE, WIS. – An outstanding first half propelled DePaul men's basketball to a 62-51 victory over Marquette Sunday afternoon at Fiserv Forum. The Blue Demons were paced by 18 points from Brandon Maclin and a 16-rebound, 10-point double-double from NJ Benson.
DePaul (16-13, 8-10 BIG EAST) earned its third-straight conference road victory and moved into fifth place in the BIG EAST standings.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The teams battled early, tied at 11, before Marquette took a two-point, 13-11, edge. DePaul closed the half in dominant fashion with a 21-1 run that included 12 points from Maclin for a 32-14 halftime lead.
Marquette opened the second half with a 12-2 run to trim the deficit to eight at the first media timeout. The Golden Eagles later pulled within three, 50-47, following a three-pointer from Chase Ross.
Clinging to a four-point lead with under two minutes remaining, DePaul turned to Benson on back-to-back possessions inside. The senior delivered before freshman Kruz McClure closed out the game with three made free throws.

- The 11-point win was DePaul's largest over Marquette since 2005.
- Benson's 16 rebounds tied his personal conference best and the program BIG EAST single-game record.
- McClure recorded 10 points – his second career BIG EAST game of double-digit scoring.
