Blue Demons Cruise to Semifinals With 4-0 Sweep of Marquette

Men’s tennis downs Golden Eagles Friday morning

CAYCE, S.C. – DePaul men's tennis carried its momentum into the BIG EAST Championships Friday morning, sweeping Marquette in a 4-0 decision at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center. The Blue Demons have won five-straight matches and advance to Saturday's semifinal against No. 3 Xavier with a spot in the title match on the line.

DePaul secured the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Augusto Pardo Cano and Sebastian Medica delivered a 6-2 victory at No. 2 over Remi St. Laurent and Luke Coppage before Sven Moser and Thomas Giles followed with a 6-1 decision at No. 3 against Kristian Blagoev and Ivan Vazquez to clinch the point.

The Blue Demons maintained control in singles play, quickly building toward the sweep. Sven Moser extended the lead with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6, while Andy Hadziabdic followed with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at No. 5.

Tobias Leitner sealed the match at No. 4, defeating St. Laurent 6-3, 6-2 to clinch the 4-0 result and send DePaul into the semifinal round. Alejandro Gandini, Sebastian Medica and Pablo Torres Almeida all held leads in their respective matches when play was halted following the clinch.

The win marks DePaul's fourth sweep of the season and its first set of consecutive sweeps since March 2025.
