Blue Demons secure 4-0 victory over Xavier Saturday morning
CAYCE, S.C. – DePaul men's tennis continued its dominant run through the BIG EAST Championships Saturday morning, shutting out Xavier 4-0 at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center to earn a spot in the conference title match. The win marks the Blue Demons' third-straight sweep and the first in head coach Matt Brothers' 19-year tenure (regular or postseason), as DePaul carries momentum into Sunday's championship.
DePaul jumped in front early by claiming the doubles point on courts two and three. Alejandro Gandini and Tobias Leitner opened with a 6-3 win at No. 2 over Andrew Spurck and Samuel Frizelle before Sven Moser and Thomas Giles sealed the point with a 6-1 decision against Bode Campbell and Lukas Grossman on court three.
In singles, the Blue Demons maintained control with three straight-set victories. Sven Moser extended the lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 5, followed by Sebastian Medica's 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 2 to put DePaul one point away.
