Men’s Soccer Adds Six Spring Newcomers

Plotkin and Co. welcome five transfers, one freshman across winter and spring terms
CHICAGO – DePaul men's soccer head coach Mark Plotkin welcomed six newcomers to the program across the winter and spring terms. The Blue Demons added five transfers in Christian Dionne, Matt Eger, Scott Godden, Chance Johnson and Ronan Selbo, along with true freshman Chase Hassfurther.
Dionne joins the Blue Demons as a redshirt senior after previously spending time at Penn State and UConn. A veteran presence on the front line, Dionne has appeared in 45 career matches with 21 starts. In 2025, the Hartford, Conn. native tallied three goals, the most in a single season of his career, along with one assist to rank fourth on the team in points. Pursuing a degree in Sports Communication, Dionne was also named a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree in 2025.
The latest signee for Plotkin and his staff, Eger is set to join the Blue Demons this fall after spending his freshman season at Penn State. In 2025, Eger appeared in 10 contests for the Nittany Lions while making three starts. The 6-foot-1 center back out of Rahway, N.J. logged 374 minutes and fired one shot in that span. In his prep career, Eger played with Cedar Stars Academy and helped his club win a pair of MLS Next Cup Championships. Academically, Eger plans to study criminology.
Godden joins the Blue Demons after two seasons at Rutgers. The Leeds, England native has appeared in 28 matches and made 16 starts in his collegiate career. As a sophomore in 2025, Godden appeared in 12 matches, logging 254 minutes and helping the Scarlet Knights defense to five shutouts, the most for the program since 2021. In 2024, the defender played in 16 games with 15 starts, recording an assist in his collegiate debut against Northeastern on Aug. 22. On the international stage, Godden served as captain of the Wales U19 National Team in the European Championships and also trained with the Wales U16, U17, U18 and U19 squads.
An early enrollee, Hassfurther joined the Blue Demons in January out of Barca Residency Academy. The 5-foot-10 defender hails from Kailua Kona, Hawaii and plans to pursue a degree in Marketing.
Johnson arrives in Chicago as a graduate goalkeeper after completing his undergraduate career at SMU. The Mustang, Okla. native made five starts in goal during his time in Dallas, recording 12 saves and earning two clean sheets. Johnson is pursuing a master's degree in accountancy from DePaul's Kellstadt Graduate School of Business.
Selbo arrives in Lincoln Park after spending his first collegiate season at St. Thomas. The Minneapolis, Minn. native appeared in all 17 matches during his freshman year, making 15 starts and totaling 1,291 minutes played. Selbo recorded two goals and one assist for five points on the season, adding three shots on goal. Top Drawer Soccer recognized Selbo as a top-100 freshman in 2025, ranking the midfielder No. 60. Selbo was named Minnesota Gatorade Player of the Year out of Washburn High School and earned All-State honors as a senior.
The six spring newcomers, in addition to five incoming freshmen, join 16 returners from the 2025 squad.
