Shane Heirman
- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Shane Heirman enters his fourth season as an assistant coach at DePaul in 2020-21. He joined the program in May 2017 after leading prep power La Lumiere School for three seasons. In his three seasons with the program, the Blue Demons have totaled the most victories and made the first postseason appearance since the 2006-07 season. Additionally, the staff put together a top 25 recruiting class that arrived on campus starting with the 2019-20 season.
DePaul's 35 wins over the last two seasons are the most in back-to-back seasons since 42 total victories in 2003-04 and 2004-05.
The 2019-20 campaign opened with a 12-1 start for the best non-conference record since the Blue Demons joined the Great Midwest Conference in 1991. The 86-65 win over UIC on Dec. 14 marked the first time since the 1999-00 season that a DePaul team won at least 10 games in a season before Jan. 1.
Overall, the Blue Demons recorded six wins against teams ranked as a Quad 1 opponent in the NET making DePaul one of just 23 programs in the country to record at least six Q1 wins during the 2019-20 season. The Blue Demons were one of six BIG EAST programs on the 23-team list while the league was the top-ranked conference in the country.
Paul Reed was a second team All-BIG EAST selection and Romeo Weems was voted to the league's All-Freshman Team.
The 2018-19 team posted 19 victories and advanced to the finals of the College Basketball Invitational while Paul Reed was named the BIG EAST's Most Improved Player and Max Strus earned second team All-BIG EAST honors. Other highlights of the 2018-19 season were 16 home victories and a decisive road win at No. 24/23 St. John's. The 16 home wins marked just the fifth season in program history that a DePaul team won 16 or more home games.
Heirman led La Lumiere to the 2017 Dick’s Sporting Goods High School Nationals and No. 1 ranking in the USA TODAY Super 25. In his three seasons at La Lumiere he totaled a record of 82-7 that also included a runner-up finish in the Dick’s Nationals and No. 3 final ranking in 2015-16.
Former DePaul players Brandon Cyrus, Jalen Coleman-Lands and Marin Maric played for Heirman at La Lumiere. Overall, Heirman coached 23 players that went on to play NCAA Division I basketball and a pair of McDonald’s All-Americans.
He is a Chicagoland native that attended Marian Central Catholic High School before playing college basketball at Tulsa from 2008-11. He played in 50 career games over his three seasons for the Golden Hurricane and completed his undergraduate degree in 2011.
