Segares joined the Blue Demon coaching staff in the spring of 2015 after playing eight years with the Chicago Fire. He had stints with the Fire from 2005-2009 and 2010-2014. He played in 2010 with the Greek Cypriot club Appollon Limassol.
He was a third-round selection by the Fire in the 2005 MLS SuperDraft and started the first three games of the 2006 season at defender before an injury sidelined him for a month. He returned to start 19 of the final 24 games and helped Chicago earn a MLS club-record fourth Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup title.
In 2007, Segares was named the Chicago Fire Defender of the Year. He also competed in the 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying tournament with Costa Rica and helped that team advance to the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals in 2009.
Segares retired in February of 2015 and continued on the Chicago Fire staff as an academy coach and club ambassador.
He was a first-team All-American and Hermann Trophy finalist as a senior at Virginia Commonwealth (VCU) where he started all 83 games and recorded 16 goals and 10 assists as a defender.
