Cassidy Spearman joined the DePaul women’s tennis program as an assistant coach in August of 2019.
Along with new head coach Marisa Arce, they led the Blue Demons to a 6-7 dual-match record before the 2019-20 season was closed down by the coronavirus pandemic.
DePaul opened Spearman's rookie season posting a 5-0 record in home matches including winning the first three matches of the dual season. Highlights included victories over Michigan State and 2019 NCAA tournament qualifier Illinois State.
The Blue Demons' last two matches before the NCAA canceled the spring season were a home win over BIG EAST opponent Xavier and a tough road victory at Indiana.
Under Arce and Spearman's leadership, women's tennis won the ITA (Intercollegiate Tennis Association) Team Academic Award for the 13th year in a row, and its 3.85 team GPA was among the highest in the nation.
She spent the first six months of 2019 working as a volunteer assistant coach for the Iowa women’s tennis team.
In the fall and during December of 2017, Spearman served as a volunteer assistant coach at Missouri where she played tennis from 2013-17 and was a team captain 2015-17.
At Missouri, Spearman won the SEC Community Service Award and was named to the SEC Honor Roll. The Laguna Niguel, Calif. native was a 2016 runner-up for the ITA’s prestigious Cissie Leary Sportsmanship Award.
While competing with the Tigers, Spearman earned membership in Missouri’s Three Stripes Club for exhibiting excellence in athletics, academics and community service. She was named to the university’s Dean’s List in consecutive semesters from 2014 to 2017.
