Bato Govedarcia

Zdravko "Bato" Govedarica played for DePaul men's basketball from 1947-51 where he appeared in 75 games, averaging 12 points per game. Originally from Chicago, Govedarica played at Lane Tech before arriving in Lincoln Park. Often credited as one of the innovators of the jump shhot, Govedarica is described as one of the best guards to come out of Chicago.Â
Following his career at DePaul, Govedarica was drafted in the third round of the 1951 NBA Draft by the Syracuse Nationals where he would appear in 23 games. He was the first NBA player of Serbian descent.Â
Govedarica was inducted into the Chicagoland Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.Â
