Bernstein Breaks Program Record, Relay Wins in Tampa

DePaul caps busy three-meet Friday at Chicagoland, South Florida and Hurricane Invites
ILLINOIS/FLORIDA – DePaul track and field closed out Friday with one of its most productive days of the season, competing at three meets across two states and coming away with two program records, three event wins and a string of top-five finishes. The Blue Demons sent athletes to the Chicagoland Championships in Elmhurst, Ill., the Hurricane Alumni Invitational in Miami and the South Florida Invitational in Tampa, with the men's group in Tampa delivering the headline performances of the day.
At Lawson Field, Caleb Schulz took first in the 100m prelims at 10.78 to advance to the final, with Alexander Long-Craine punching his ticket in fourth at 10.90. Cole Tupper dominated the 5,000m in 15:02.79, with Daniel Grauer adding a 17th-place finish at 15:42.06. On the women's side, Katelyn Welsh earned runner-up in the pole vault at 3.71m and Vivian Jones placed fourth in the long jump at 5.44m. Gianna Sanchez and Sara Cordova went fourth and eighth, respectively, in the 5,000m, while Ryan Usher advanced out of the 110H prelims in fifth at 15.78.
In Miami, Aubrey Phillips and Ashleigh McArdle represented DePaul in the heptathlon on day one of the Hurricane Alumni Invitational. Aubrey leads through two events, sitting seventh overall with 3,036 points after a third-place high jump at 1.68m and a ninth-place 200 at 25.87. Ashleigh sits 10th with 2,726 points, highlighted by a second-place shot put at 12.61m. Jaiah Hopf also turned in a strong showing, finishing third in the long jump at 5.91m.
The Blue Demons saved their biggest performances for Tampa. Alex Bernstein set a program record in the hammer throw with a mark of 70.62m to take first, while Demetrius Rolle added an event win of his own with a first-place 100 at 10.31. The men's 4x400m relay of Tyce Smith, Christian Ortiz-Velazquez, Denhm Holt, Daniel Fasasi and Harper Bryan crossed in 3:08.60 to win and set a second program record on the day. Jaiden Gary was runner-up in the shot put at 17.55m, and Fasasi placed third in the 400 at 46.38.
