SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Starting in the field for the first time this season, freshman Lindsey Deason scored the game’s only goal to give the Blue Demons a 1-0 victory over Drury University on Friday night. With the win, DePaul improves to 6-10-1 on the season.
After both teams went into halftime scoreless, Deason found the net at 59:20 to give DePaul the lead. Having to play at forward after suffering a thumb injury in practice, Deason took advantage of her new role to give DePaul the win. In the match, the Blue Demons were outshot, 14-9.
Goalkeeper Lauren Geiger played an impressive game in goal as she tallied nine stops for DePaul. In the process, the junior notched her first shutout of her collegiate career.
“The two stories of the game were Lauren (Geiger) getting her first shutout and Lindsay (Deason) scoring the gamewinner after playing all season in goal before her thumb injury,” said DePaul head coach John Wilson. “The kids played with a lot of heart and we’re looking forward to playing Saint Louis on Sunday.”
DePaul’s final road game of the regular season will be Sunday afternoon at Saint Louis. The Blue Demons and Billikens kick off at 1 p.m. The final game of the regular season will be Nov. 3 when DePaul hosts Marquette.
