Women's Tennis Loses Two Matches, Defeats Zips

CHICAGO (Feb. 26) - Injuries to Laura Taylor, Rachel Dybas and Meghan Stewart left the women's tennis team shorthanded during its Ohio trip this past weekend. The Blue Demons faced Cincinnati, Ohio State and Akron losing to the first two and beating the Zips.
Cincinnati was the meet where the injuries proved the most costly. With just five players, DePaul had to default the number six singles and number three doubles matches. The losses proved to be the difference as Cincinnati scored the 4-3 victory. Kadi Hilpus, Karen Falduto and Natalie Matko all came away with straight set wins for the team and the doubles tandem of Stephanie Matko and Szilvia Keleman registered an 8-5 win.
The Buckeyes defeated the battered Demons handily, 6-1. Natalie Matko was the only Demon to win her match. She claimed a 6-2, 6-3 victory at number five singles.
While being on the losing end of a blowout against Ohio State, DePaul picked up its own in its win over Akron. The Blue Demons won the meet 7-0 and three players, both Matkos and Falduto, did not lose a game. Neither team had six players so all five singles matches and the two doubles matches counted for one point each.
DePaul moves its record to 6-9 in dual meets and will next play this Saturday against Murray State in Saint Louis.
