ROME, Ga. – Sasha Sakura Stula will make history this weekend as the first DePaul women's tennis player to represent the BIG EAST in singles at the ITA Conference Masters in Rome, Ga., from Nov. 5-8.
The tournament hosts 32 singles players and 32 doubles players from eligible NCAA Division I conferences. Four singles players and two doubles teams will secure a spot in the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, respectively, which will take place from Nov. 17-22 in Athens, Ga.
Sakura Stula enters the ITA Conference Masters on the coattails of a dominant performance at the Rocket Indoor Invitational in Toledo Oct. 30-31. There, the senior went 2-1 at No. 1 singles over both days, dropping just six total games. On Oct. 30, Sakura Stula secured a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Oakland's Marina Marusinova before defeating Cleveland State's Laura Tapia 6-0, 6-1 on Oct. 31.
The Japan native was near-perfect in Toledo across both doubles and singles, dropping just one match — a tough, 6-4, 6-3 loss to Toledo's JJ Scholten.
This fall season, Sakura Stula holds a 6-3 singles record.
