LAWRENCE, Kan. - Shot putter Frank Guzman led the DePaul contingent at the 75th Kansas Relays last weekend by placing eighth in the invitational shot put competition. Diana Runnels also had a strong showing with a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash.
Guzman, already a NCAA provisional qualifier in the shot put, threw with some of the nation's top shot putters in the invitational competition. His distance of 18.33 meters (60'-1.75") set a new school record while eclipsing the 60-foot barrier. Runnels placed second in her heat with a time of 56.86 before taking fifth in the 400-meter finals at 57.94.
Other top finishers for the Blue Demons included the distance medley team of Kai Murray, Salvador Andrade, Will Lazicki and Luis Samayoa. They placed fourth with a time of 10:13.39.
