Malkamaki Claims Fifth National Title, DePaul Alumni Shine at Nationals

Five Blue Demons wrapped national competition in USA, Germany
NEW YORK/GERMANY – DePaul track and field alumni and student-athletes were well represented on two continents over the weekend of July 23-26. Three Blue Demon alumni competed at the 2026 USATF Outdoor & Para National Championships in New York, while one alum and one current student-athlete took the track at the German National Championships in Bochum.
USATF Outdoor Championships
Noelle Malkamaki ('24) claimed her fifth-straight national title in the F46 shot put on July 25, winning the women's ambulatory competition (contested alongside the F35, F36, F40, F44, F46 and F64 classes) with a throw of 12.79m. The Team USA Paralympic gold medalist and current world record holder in the classification has been unbeaten at USATF Para Nationals since her first title in 2022.
Darius Brown ('25), a four-time All-American and eight-time BIG EAST champion during his time at DePaul, advanced to the semifinal round of the 110m hurdles on July 26, running 13.54 to finish 13th overall, three spots better than his 16th-place finish in the same event at last year's USATF Outdoor Championships. Now racing professionally, Brown opened his 2026 season with wins at the Meeting de Paris Indoor before returning to the national stage in New York.
Olivia Borowiak ('24), a six-time DePaul record holder, opened the weekend on July 23 in the event where she made her name as a Blue Demon, finishing eighth in the 10,000m final with a time of 34:26.20.
German Athletics Championships
DePaul was also represented at the German National Championships in Bochum on July 25, where a current Blue Demon and a recent alumna took the track.
Helen Baumgarten, a senior hurdler from Baden-Baden entering her final season with the Blue Demons after winning BIG EAST titles in the 100m hurdles (13.62) and 4x100m relay and running a personal-best 13.47, competed in the 100m hurdles semifinal. She finished fourth in her heat in 13.49, just .14 seconds outside a spot in the final.
Nadja Moll ('26), who ran a personal-best 54.24 in the 400m at last year's BIG EAST Outdoor Championships and helped anchor DePaul's school-record 4x400m relay squads both indoors and outdoors, raced the 400m semifinal. She finished seventh in her heat in 56.31.
