Blue Demons Dominate Hawkeye Invitational

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Blue Demons were unstoppable on Friday and Saturday at the Hawkeye Invitational hosted by the University of Iowa.
Against the Hawkeyes on Friday, the Blue Demons won six out of a total of nine matches, also taking the top three singles matches. In first singles, DePaul's Szilvia Kelemen defeated Cassie Haas 6-2, 6-4. Marina Parashkevova also took her opponent, Steffi Hoch, in two sets of second singles with a score of 6-2, 6-1.
On Saturday, DePaul continued their success with a shut out over Iowa State. In first singles, Parashkevova defeated her foe in two quick sets (6-2, 6-2). In first doubles, Parashkevova and Kelemen won their set fairly easily with a score of 6-2. Similarly, Natalie Matko and Brenda Leung (second doubles) beat Bulldogs Tara Goedjen and Kristin Gyaki 6-1.
The Blue Demons repeated their success against Drake later that day. DePaul beat the Bulldogs in all nine matches, helping them to their second sweep of the day. In first singles Kelemen took Drake's Anali de Bruyn in two, barley squeezing by in the second set (6-2, 7-6).
This weekend, the women's tennis team will attempt to continue their winning streak when they pair up against Illinois State, Furman, and Northern Illinois.
