Women's Soccer Wraps Up Recruiting Class

CHICAGO – DePaul women’s soccer coach John Wilson announced today that Katie Kiene and Nicole Meschbach have signed National Letters of Intent to play for the Blue Demons beginning next season. The two players from Ohio and Illinois wrap Wilson’s third recruiting class.
"This recruiting class represents the last piece of the puzzle falling into place in our rebuilding of the DePaul's women's soccer program,” said Wilson. “We are now a complete team with many of the weapons necessary to compete with the top teams in our region and in Conference USA. I can hardly wait to take the field with this team next season, and we are all eager for our new DePaul soccer family members to join us."
At Ottawa-Glandorf High School, Katie Kiene was a four-year letterwinner in both basketball and soccer. She earned first team All-Ohio honors twice in her four years, and was named team MVP four times. As a team captain, Kiene’s ability is reflected in her exceptional career stats of 69 assists and 78 goals.
“Katie also fills one of our needs at the speed position. Paired with Amanda, they will provide the fitness, speed and athleticism we need to compete with the top teams in our region as well as in our conference,” said Wilson. “She too represents one of the last pieces in the puzzle for our rebuilding project falling into place. She will make us a complete team next season and we can hardly wait to put this team on the field. She has a great outlook on life and is a positive influence upon those around her. She is an absolute pleasure to be around as her personality brightens the room. Like all of the kids in our program, she fits the mold perfectly and we welcome her to our DePaul soccer family.”
A two-time ODP state team member, Nicole Meschbach, brings a lot of championship experience to the program. For three years, Nicole served as Eclipse Select team captain, where she won the state and regional championships in 2001. As a forward, she also played a cruical role in St. Viators 2002 IHSA State Championship. Individually, Meschbach was named the IHSA State All-Tournament team, All-Sectional, All-Conference, All-Area, Chicago Tribune All-State special mention, along with a number of other accolades. Nicole is a standout in the classroom as well as on the soccer field. She was a member of her school’s National Honor Society, National German Society, and National Art Society.
“Nicole’s resume speaks for itself. The level of her success and experience will definitely aid in her transition to the college level,” said Wilson. “Soccer is in her blood and her pedigree is proff of that. The high standards from which she comes will enable her to compete here from day one. She is a brilliant student and has a wonderful personality in which she successfully blends a highly competitive nature with a very pleasent demeanor. In this way and many others, she is a perfect fit for our program and we can’t wait for her to join our DePaul soccer family.”
DePaul is coming off their most successful season in the program’s seven-year history. In 2002, the Blue Demons posted school records for victories (10), goals (29), shutouts (7) and goals against average (1.20). Overall, the club finished with a 10-8-1 record while going 3-6-1 in Conference USA action.
