CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The DePaul women’s soccer team opened their Conference USA weekend in North Carolina with a 3-1 loss on Friday night at Charlotte. Lauren Spacht got the Blue Demons on the board early, but the 49ers roared back to hand DePaul their first conference loss of the season.
Spacht scored the unassisted goal at 12:56 when she fired a shot into the upper corner from 20 yards away. The freshman scored her fourth goal of the season to give the Blue Demons the early advantage.
Charlotte (2-10-1, 1-3-1 C-USA) came back with Courtney Crandell scoring the first of her two goals in the 34th minute to knot the match at 1-1. Crandell struck again with the game-winner at 72:55 before Kim Miles sealed the Charlotte victory with a goal in the 85th minute.
DePaul (9-4-0, 4-1-0 C-USA) had opportunities to score as they outshot the 49ers, 15-11, and took three corner kicks compared to zero for the home team. Charlotte goalkeeper Shannon Huffman turned in a strong performance with eight saves while DePaul’s Lindsey Deason was credited with three stops.
The Blue Demons aim to get back on the winning track Sunday afternoon when they take on the East Carolina Pirates. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. EST at Bunting Field in Greenville, N.C.
