Khara Smith Named C-USA Player of the Week

CHICAGO – For the second time in three weeks, DePaul sophomore Khara Smith was named the Conference USA Player of the Week. The honor for Smith was her second this season and the fourth time in her career.
Smith led the Blue Demons to a pair of wins last week and a near-upset of No. 2 Tennessee. She shot a combined .735 (25-34) from the field in the three games including a game-high 23 points and seven rebounds against the Lady Vols. Over the weekend, she tallied 19 points and five steals against Alabama State on Friday, and notched her C-USA-best seventh double-double of the season with 15 points and 13 rebounds against Valparaiso on Sunday.
For the week, the Hillside, Ill., native averaged 19.0 points, nine rebounds and three steals per game.
Smith and the Blue Demons play their final game of the 2003 calendar on Tuesday afternoon at Loyola-Chicago. Tipoff at the Gentile Center in Rogers Park is set for approximately 3:30 p.m. The Blue Demons and Ramblers face off following the Loyola-Central Michigan men’s game at 1 p.m.
