Chouinard, Martz, Douglas Earn Academic All-District Honors

CHICAGO - DePaul's Lindsay Chouinard, Sarah Martz and Sarah Douglas were all named to the 2003 Verizon/Academic All-District V team as selected by CoSIDA it was announced today.
Chouinard and Martz were first team selections while Douglas was on the second team. Chouinard and Martz will now be placed on the 2003 Verizon/Academic All-American ballot.
The team was voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) from District V, which encompasses Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Chouinard, who led the Blue Demons to their third consecutive regular season Conference USA title this season, has been named Conference USA Pitcher of the Year and Most Valuable Player. She carries a 3.356 GPA in Finance.
Chouinard claimed her second consecutive C-USA Pitcher of the Year accolade, while also earning league MVP honors yesterday. She becomes only the second player in league history to earn both awards in the same year. She is currently first in the league in three categories - earned run average (0.48), opposing batting average (.154) and saves (4). The senior has thrown seven career no-hitters, ranking her second behind USM's Blades, the 2000 Honda Award winner, on the C-USA career list. On the season, she is 28-4 with a 0.48 ERA, ranking second in the nation. She led the conference with six C-USA Pitcher of the Week honors this season, totaling 15 in her career. Chouinard is also a finalist for the USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, awarded by the Amateur Softball Association. A two-time All-American, Lindsay was also a third-team Academic All-American a year ago.
Martz, a junior from Lanark, Ill., was also a third-team Academic All-American last year and a second-team All-American. She carries a 3.769 GPA in Secondary Education with an emphasis on Math. Martz is currently leads the team in hitting (.466) and is 15-1 on the mound with a 1.24 ERA.
Douglas is a junior from Crown Point, Ind. who owns a 3.249 GPA in Physical Education. She is hitting .270 with four home runs and 29 RBI.
The fourth-ranked Blue Demons (43-5-1) take on the winner of the Louisville-Southern Miss match up on Thursday at 5 p.m. in the 2003 Conference USA Tournament at Houston. The tournament runs through Saturday. The championship game on May 10 at 2 p.m. (CST) will be televised by affiliates of the Conference USA Television Network. The game will be telecasted live on the following stations: College Sports Television (Direct TV, Ch. 610), Charter Communications (St. Louis), Comcast Charter Sports Southeast, Cox Sports TV (New Orleans) and WFTE-TV (Louisville). Fox Sports Net Chicago (May 10 at 5 p.m. (CST)) will be broadcasting the championship game as a tape delay.
